Upload: Cross hatching

With coloured pencils and pens, we can create different textures using hatching techniques. A simple hatching is made by drawing sets of parallelly lines that are equally spaced.

Simple Hatching

Draw a set of lines parallel lines evenly separated.

Cross Hatching

Draw one set of lines in one direction, followed by another set that crosses at an angle.

Mix-Colour

Both hatching and cross-hatching can be applied using alternating colour. This can create interesting mixing effects.

Spiral Hatching

Follow the outline of a shape and gradually create a spiral going towards the centre.

Try this

Step 1

Draw and outline 4 random shapes on a piece of paper.

Step 2

Fill each with the different types of hatching.

Step 3

Label the hatching types.
